Macy's thxgiving parade get's "rick rolled"

and I learn what "rick rolling" means...

"i like chocolate milk" says "i like rick rolling!"...pretty silly...foster's home for imaginary friends is so good.

Very. Cool. Indeed.

I just stumbled upon this and it's GREAT!

Catterazzi.

How many times have I told you? This is private property!

I like how they both hate the camera so much.

and...someone filmed their cat acting drunk after getting sedated at the vet...

I promise I like dogs too. Last night at a friends house, I was reading this book called "101 reasons why a cat is better than a man" and It was pretty depressing, most of them were like, bitter divorcee speak. I couldn't stop reading it though.

DR GOLDFOOT and the bikini machine

last year around this time, or maybe 2 years ago, I watched this movie at Ksteg's parents house, and I haven't been able to find it at all since...but of course, at least the intro and trailer is on youtube.

In this movie, Vincent Price [Dr Goldfoot] makes these sexy robot ladies in gold bikinis, and their one mission is to like, make out with strangers who are rich businessmen and talk them into marrying them so they can embezzle all their money for Dr Goldfoot. There was some sort of twist and love or something, but I don't really remember who falls in love with who or what robot ladies actually turn into a human, and basically it makes as little sense as it sounds.

Who IS Mr Domino?

Ever hear of Domino Day? Me either, but my mom showed me this video. The Dutch are so fun. It's a holiday set aside to set a world record!

I think this video is awesome because it shows how into it they are like a sport! SHUFFLE TECHNIQUE!

If you want more, this one is good too.

"Awesome Octopus" and Ecstatic Peace!

With a search like "octopus awesome" and a band called The Octopus Project that a lot of people think is awesome, I of course came across a lot of stuff on them also. I'm not sure how I feel about them, I think they use cool instruments, but I've only seen them from the very very very back of a room last year at SXSW. Otherwise, I've never listened to their music, so you know, take that however you take it.

They were either on or endorsed by or something of the sort by Ecstatic Peace! Records and Tapes, which if you didn't know about, you should, because you probably missed a lot of good shows with some of the groups that are represented by them when Michael and I used to host shows in his basement. I should also mention that Ecstatic Peace! was founded by Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth fame. The way I see it, is if you are a fan of Thurston, and you're pretty sure you'd trust his taste in music, EP is really worth checking out. Just in case you needed any extra coercion.

Don't worry, if anyone ever goes on tour through the Midwest again, Michael and friends will surely find another venue for touring friends to play here in St Louis. As far as the Ecstatic Peace stuff goes--for stuff that's easy to like upon first listen-- I highly recommend Matt Valentine & Erica Elder [MV & EE sing this really good song where they say "...and I'm free- F-R-Double-E..." which was love at first sight for me] and also Religious Knives [which they are so good live but live video footage of them looks underwhelming...I like the track "the streets" off their most recent album, but probably mostly because I like it when Maya sings. The whole album has a really radical echoey mellow sound, but again, not for times when you've got a short attention span...most of their songs are no less than 5 mins]

Other stuff that a lot of people like are Awesome Color and Be Your Own Pet, but again, I've seen both live, and I've seen people get excited over both, but I haven't given either careful enough attention to personally endorse a recommendation.

What I didn't expect to find in my search was a new St Louis blog [new to me anyways] which appears to be about music.

Octopusses have feelings too!

No really, they get scared and surprised and empathetic or something. I learned about it in high school in my Marine Science class, which was without a doubt my favorite class ever ever ever. Everything about it.

My love of cepholopods and bioluminescence has reignited. Below are these adorable cufflinks that I found on a google image search for "octopus awesome"...they are on etsy.

Video was found on top ten ted talks. I also found a cute little narrative and videos of untested quality here. I trust the content, I think I've seen the same video so I didn't feel like watching it just now. I do highly recommend this video you're about to watch, below. It is great. I am a fan of great down-to-earth relatable public speaking.

Also, the thing that made me remember that someone had shown me that ted talk video was that somehow or another when following a cold trail of something I was looking up, I came across a really interesting blog entry on Wired called geekdad and I hope you at least browse it because that one entry, because the whole blog is kinda neat and fun to read.

Hope you liked that lecture as much as I did.

Truly Awful Stuff.

In my search for pictures of unicorns, I came across a really AWsome blog about AWful gifts friends give to one another.

I think I'm gonna follow it. Here you go.

Debriefing.

I'm getting a unicorn tattoo in a few hours. I found this picture on this blog. I like science blogs.

Update: No unicorn tattoo yet, but I gave my artist my rough rendering to work with. It is so girly it's not even funny.

I have a tattoo of a blue bambi with pink hair behind my Right ear, and always tinkered with the idea of getting something behind the other ear...people used to buy me all deer stuff and then magically when I turned 22 people started giving me stuff with unicorns on it, and my friend Valentine started calling me a Unicorn every time she was drinking...so, there we go, I'm going to get a pink unicorn with blue hair.

What's a little embarassing to admit is that I got the actual idea for what the image would look like from a gift from a special boy...but the gift that the pink unicorn with blue hair got taken with a bag I left out on my seat when my car was broken into...so I had to make a unicorn frankenstein from the vast options of unicorn poses and faces on google images and use the best of my memory to recreate the cute little unicorn.

I like that she looks like she's flirting. So after I get this, I will have like, my own version of the cartoon devil and the cartoon angel on your shoulders kind of thing, except it's not as easy to distinguish which is good/evil, and that's more human, so whatevs, it makes sense to me. I'm calmly excited about it.

I love technology.

I found a blog today that was interesting and this post about Hacking an LED display on a badge card to tell his wife that he loved her was particularly cool. When I was in Programming I, we were learning C++ and I made my boyfriend at the time a Birthday card/quiz with Y/N, enter any key, etc sort of CIN>> and if/then sort of commands. It was both as dorky and as cute as it sounds.

I also found this video on that guy's blog. I guess maybe I passed off the Flight of the Concords too soon because I liked the Mighty Boosh first.

Ps- my posture is terrible!

this was also on Joe's photobucket and not only was this a really fun day (the day I proposed sexless marriage to my seemingly asexual friend and also hula hooped in someone's truckbed without knowing whose truck it was...it was a live music festival and everyone was excited and drinking...these things happen...) this picture made Joe make fun of me for months for coming up with this kind of contorted spokesperson pose....sigh, summer. Glad it happened, glad it's over...except that I'm cold.

Something a little more Pleasant...

Hehe, found this on Grace's flickr. Taylor and Genevieve's cat Foos was perfectly content being held upside down so I got down on her level. She's a funny cat...she has a hitler stache and she sounds like the aliens from Mars Attacks--not as harsh sounding, but still weird meow for a cat...but she's a snugglebug and she's tiny.

Then I found this picture on the internet photo album...seemingly belonging to my friend Joseph Sulier...It makes me laugh that I'm smoking a cigarette, drinking a beer, and talking on the phone at the same time. I think I lost that leotard behind the couch or something...hm. That night I didn't have a bike yet and I borrowed my friend Bridget's mountain bike...she is about a foot shorter than me, so this was awkward. I've really been thinking about quitting smoking lately. It's probably just because it's the winter, but then again I keep seeing pictures like this and thinking "yeah, that's not too attractive..."

Plus, I don't really want to date a regular smoker so I bet I'm ruled out in a lot of people's books for that too.

Happy Monday, blog. I'll see you at free pizza.

Ps- tomorrow I'm getting a unicorn tattoo with several other people.

Gross.

horror themed workout?

Ladies and Gentlemen, Linnea Quigley's Horror Workout.

part 2 is better:

CUNT SMASHER

I can't believe that this video only has 250,000+ views...seems like it should have more.

I overslept today.

1st order of business: My friend Anne Wells is a Genius of Coincidence. I think about this picture every day and she scanned it for me. I almost want to make this moment last forever.

2] I dreamed that all my friends were in the party of Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead, only there was a lot of beer and my face was painted white and instead of a fashion show it was some weird art performance that I don't remember.

he hehehe.

My mind isn't even close to being in the gutter today. It's a passed out bum in a doorway of an abandoned building donning a neon windbreaker and lying next to him is some sort of weird flavor of Mad Dog 20 20. And the bottle is broken.

Ps- Chilton has the hiccups.

ok, i know I already mentioned this the other day, but...

This Beach House song makes me wish I was making a lovey dovey mixtape for someone right now...

I didn't realize the other day, but they have quite a few videos.

Holy Fucking Shit.

So on our way to go to some thrift stores today around 4:30 pm-ish, Beth and I saw THIS GUY riding his bike down Grand Ave. I mean, it is about 30 degrees, but somehow I don't think this guy came up with his outfit with staying warm in mind.

This isn't exactly what I had in mind but I found it...

I found someone on youtube that only takes videos of spandex clad cyclist butts. They have 72 subscribers. This makes me giggle endlessly. Too bad the videos are kind of boring.

I told someone the other day that cyclists have totally ruined the possibility of me ever thinking that anyone's butt who doesn't ride a bike marginally has a cute butt.

Hey, you can't blame me, I watched Secretary the other day. Hottest nontraditional love story ever. Spader is so righteous.

God damn you slow iPhone camera!

If my camera hadn't taken so long to startup, you'd see that this is a dude on one of those rascal scooters giving a girl a piggyback ride on the scooter. They kind of looked like they stole it and were joyriding it across the crosswalk.

Sunday, November 16, 2008

I was just going to take a picture of my outfit and then I decided to jump for some reason and the in house camera isn't that awesome at action shots so instead I'm some weird bright orange scary ghost monster.

Come On DOWN, Heather from St Louis!

I will have my OWN laundry machines now because my neighbors are so inconsiderate and my awesome landlords intervened in a way that makes everyone happy!!!!

Besides that, my landlord fixed my shower and he uh, took a huge clump of hair out of the drain. Drano is not the answer for that, I learned. I asked him to show me how to unscrew the thing because I was a little embarrassed that my landlord was handling my shedding. I should just cut my hair.

Oh, and I'm getting a new ceiling fan and the one that needs to be fixed is gonna go in my back bricked in patio room that I currently don't even use.

AND AND AND my mom gave me a TiVo and VHS player because she can't use it anymore with her cable and she has a lifetime membership and it writes DVDs and I'm going to convert some family videos. I started looking around in my grandma's basement for them, and I found a video labeled "Swayze Dancing Lessons"...that one So trumps everything else.

I feel like I won The Price Is Right.

New music

I got my KDHX thank you for becoming a member gift today, I chose the Beach House album, which my friend Grace plays on her show a lot. It's really dreamy and all the songs are kinda long and romantic or whatever. I just put it in my computer to import it and about 2 and a half minutes into it I thought to myself "eh, I don't really have the attention span to listen to this right now" and now I just finished the whole album.

[Here is their myspace]

[Here is their website]

[Here they are on last.fm]

their album cover was a pleasant surprise because I was JUST making fun of how I was looking through my grandma's basement yesterday and grabbed some random pictures and 3 of them were pictures of cakes with things written on them. So I thought this was a clever album cover.

facebook.

It's sort of funny that yesterday I should decide to drunkenly comment at length on a friend's blog entry about facebook...

a few hours later I bring pizza to my Grandma's house and my mom shows me her own facebook page.

1) I have a lot of profile image deleting/editing to do.

2) She immediately posted a picture of my brother and I in the bathtub:

something already made my day better

Lee's annual Halloween visitor, the very rad Jeff P, has his pictures from his STL visit up on his flickr. I don't know why I didn't check before, I've been super excited just thinking about the picture from after I rolled down a hill in a barrel at Soli's Bday party...twice!

And honestly, I kind of feel like a bad friend that I had to find out that Ali and Piper dressed up as Nancy Kerrigan and Tanya Harding for the Halloween party they went to on El Dio de Los Muertes...

I guess this means I should post my own pictures too.

why the fuck am i up?

I went to bed after 4:30 am and I magically woke up at 8:30 am with the intention of going back to sleep and sleeping in, and that just isn't going to happen so I guess I'm rollin with it and maybe napping later if that's even possible. I feel intensely anxious and I can't exactly put my finger on why...maybe I need some sunlight or something.

I didn't take any pictures last night, not one...but a lot of other people did...Lee wouldn't let me see the picture[s] of my attempts to cross a branch over a ditch that a bunch of us scaled, didn't scale, pole vaulted, slipped in, you name it, we tried it...Jeff M. even fuggin stripped down for the sake of trying new things/not getting his clothes wet and attempted to ride his bike across what looked like not so optimal terrain [ahem, a LOG across a shallow river]...and everyone celebrated his valiant effort even though he totally fell in...which is totally cool too, I just hope his bike didn't incur any permanent squeaks or creaks.

There was also a train bridge that was easy to climb up on...I did not because I was perfectly happy climbing the smaller concrete structure in the middle of the river and although I was feeling a bit daredevil, I didn't want to get wrapped up in excitement and have to have someone explain to my mom or my lack of health insurance if I got hurt...in other words...the smaller ditch and river combo was way more fun and inviting and no more than an 8 or so foot drop in any given direction. So other people climbed this bridge and then of course people hurt themselves but other people had a lot of fun looking like they were dancing up there and stuff...

Then we all got donuts, rode up Hampton and went our separate ways. It was really fun and I only spent $5.26 at Patrick's Dogtown Liquors.

MAN...like clockwork...Ali just texted me to save the day...she reminded me that the tattoo convention is in town! Hooray!

ALSO-- go to this because two of my friends are showing their art and there's no reason you shouldn't go unless you're working or something:

I just found out

that my cats have been taking socks and underwear under the bed and holding them hostage out of my sight... I even found one sock of my ex boyfriend's fancy socks! I'm so glad I found a whole bunch of socks right before I was going to go out and buy some.

i came across another 2.0 website that kept my attention for a min...

http://www.pinkunicorn.net/misc.html

i started reading her friend's comic

this makes me wonder if this website I made in 8th grade with like, angelfire or something still exists.

Magic.

they also make paper WALLS

this guy is also magic. But I can't understand him.

but i can understand him:

now that my house is clean i'm fantasizing about dressers.

But only because I fell in love with one that's way way expensive a while ago. It's probably because they are an eco friendly company that their stuff is so expensive. Sigh.

I'm pretty sure that I just played a trick on myself.

By a few hours of "fake cleaning" I'm pretty sure that I just cleaned my whole apartment for realsies. Maybe I should have all my friends over that saw my apartment when it looked like I lived in a junk shop.

I just looked out the window

and my mailman is wearing the coolest hat ever. Or at least it looks cool on him. Too bad I think Peat Henry is the only person who has seen firsthand how awesome my mailman is. We were coming back to my house from getting donuts one time and dude was delivering my mail and then he was like "I have some new netflix for you!" and then proceeded to tell us about how he just gets them and then rips them and I just remember thinking "should he be regaling tales of his illegal activities to perfect strangers as a federal employee in uniform on the clock?"

Just a thought.

wait what the fuck?

my friends back in CA are on vice records now? Shit, good for them.

I was looking up surfing videos of my friend Alex because I like the way he surfs a lot, I really identify with the way he balances, my own balance is very good but looks very haphazard...and balancing is like, the best thing ever in whatever you are doing...it's why riding on handlebars is fun, and why dancing on my plastic trucked Nash skateboard is fun, and why surprising people with the fact that I'm a good bowler is always fun....because everything I do looks like I'm gonna fall over, but because this is the way I was built, as long as I'm not in some sort of contact sport, catching my balance is like the indescribable art that is the hippie shit sounding zen stuff that surfers talk about. We'll just call it magic for lack of a more perfect word.

But this entry isn't about me, it's about how I wish I could see my friend Alex surf in person. He is also a terrific dancer.

So whenever they first started up this band-- The Japanese Motors --around like 2003-2004, I remember I took my friend Sydney (who was dating Al at the time, kinda how we became budz) and Al to my mom's house and I was showing them my room or something and Al picked up this guitar that I got when I was in 5th grade and painted it up with nail polish when I was in 8th grade and going through this phase where I was painting like,
everything with nail polish in rainbow colors...and he was like "this is rad, can I have this?"...

I remember I kind of blushed and laughed at the same time because it was like, in my mind the thing I presumed I should be embarassed about or whatevs...

Come to think of it now, I probably shoulda given it to him, because it's just been doing nothing but sit in my mom's house...I'm gonna have my brother email me a picture of it later and I'll add it to this post.

I've always vascillated between total jealousy and total adoration of Al because he's only a year older than me and when we hung out a lot he was like 19 and had his art showing all over the world because since he surfs at the professional level in this niche rare revival version of longboarding, [which is also just too cool for words in itself] and I was like, you know, trying to get people to pay attention to me just like every one else. [I feel like that both warrants an emoticon and also totally will ruin the moment of clarity that I just had if I actually do it.]

So basically I'm totally jealous of Alex Knost because he gets to surf and paint all day and play music and party all night and go on tour and get free stuff and be in only the coolest artsy surf movies which are really the only kind I can pay attention to anyways. He lives the good life. Truly a good person to pass through my life, I will have to try to hang out with him when I go home for Xmas.

He also has a surfin dad (salty dog- means an old dude that has been surfing forever and ever...get it...salt water? old dude?) and an older sis that is shorter than he is and totally looks like those cute little chipettes that dated alvin & the chipmunks. I forget what his mom is like, and most of the time when I would go over to their family's house, their dad was just watching tv, but I remember thinking that it was cool that there were just surfboards everywhere and his parents just let him put plastic up in the front room and just like, take it over with buckets of house paint and canvases...

He had this sponsorship (man every time I ever type out that word I end up writing "sponsorshit" which I always thought was sort of like a typo-freudian slip hybrid...) with Converse (coolest ever, right? He also surfed for Vans...) and one day he and Syd and I spent the whole day piled into my car listening to new wave and trying to go to different shoe stores in malls with lax return policies to try to return shoes that he got for free with the claims that it was a gift. What was funny about this, is that it didn't work and I'll tell you why-- we got this really shoe savvy shoestore manager and the shoes we were trying to return turned out to be like, some special edition or something (it wasn't marked that way, how were we supposed to know?) and they were like "we definitely don't carry these..."

that being said, here is a video with him surfing that is a vans promo:

anyways I should just be done with this post because nothing I say makes any sense and my storytelling is so out of order it's not funny...no really, I'm terrible at telling jokes. I am good at finding pictures on the internet though so I'll just do that instead...

this is the coolest picture I've seen in a long time. The group of people that overlap with Alex are definitely what made living in OC cooler than anything else, because they're fun and goofy and down to earth.

last time I checked up on Al's myspace to see what he was up to it appeared that he was involved in making some sort of movie that really reminds me of Godard's Masculin/Feminin.

Ps- In the music video at the very top, when they introduce the band...Nolan was supposed to be my prom date or hang out with me on my prom night or something (because he was tall or something and I was the single friend or whatever) but then Alex sold me off to his other friend in this way that was like "oh wait, did we say that Nolan liked you? We meant that Chase digs you, you're supposed to go out with him instead!" and then of course I went for it and we double dated it to a shins show to drop off a box of tshirts from the company they worked at...end.

I'M GOING HOME FOR XMAS!

I've asked a lot of people if they've seen this commercial...this is actually like the unedited version with cutesy little fuckups...

this one sort of makes me a little sad...I need to go visit my sister this winter and go snowboarding with my nephew[s]

I am so not joking

This is totally one of my favorite movies. I especially really like the Wikipedia Entry.
My half birthday is coming up and if no one buys me this movie I am going to buy it for myself and everyone else's benefit. Andrew McCarthy is so great. Make fun of me all you want.

Speaking of Bobs....

I also saw What About Bob? last night on TV when I came home and I totally want his hilarious tshirt that says "don't hassle me- I'm local"...I'm seeing on the internet that they make it all sorts of places, but not quite in the awesome color blue that he dons in the movie. Bummer.

I do really like this scene where he helps the kid (named Sigmund...hehe) learn that Tourette's Syndrome is way scarier than being afraid of Death.

Saw this great movie last night

which also reminded me of how cool the Webster Film Series is!
here's what the film series said on their website:
Bob Roberts
- part of Strange Brew: Cult Films at Schlafly Bottleworks.
November 5 at 8 pm
(Tim Robbins, 1992, USA, 81 min.)

Just in time for the post-election wind down, Tim Robbins’ directorial debut offers a cynical, funny documentary-style look at the fictional Senatorial campaign of Bob Roberts, an archconservative folk singer turned politician. This political satire includes several original songs co-written and performed by writer/director/star Robbins, and cameo appearances by the Hollywood Liberal Elite (i.e. John Cusack, Susan Sarandon, Jack Black, Helen Hunt, etc.) Look for Gore Vidal as Senator Brickley Paiste.

The best quote of the movie was when he was responding to fan mail or something and he gets this valentine's card which reads something like "even though it's not Valentine's day...will you be mine? signed, [forgot name], age 7" and he's like

"oh that's so sweet, we should write her a letter back...have it read [again, can't remember this exactly] 'thanks, your valentine warmed my heart...stay in school and Don't do Crack-- it's a ghetto drug.'"

The video below was a super awesome part of the movie that I am so glad is on the almighty YouTube.

Here's the Bob Dylan video for "Subterranean Homesick Blues" that the above video is in reference to:

and not to get TOO far off track but this reminded me of this Promo I saw on MTV last year when MIA was the artist of the week (apparently on my half birthday!) where the description of the video is literally "M.I.A. channels Bob Dylan...I still continue to be impressed by the modern take on this video with the use of motion graphics technology. It makes me so happy I'm going to use an emoticon! :)

Another good yawn.

Its so weird how Brakhage stretches his feet all the way in front of him, but then since he is fat, no matter how he lays, he blobs into this weird furbag full of goo.

OMFG

fuck my upstairs neighbors. anyone who knows me knows that I complain about this way too much, but holy shit, not only are they always hogging the laundry machines...but I just went down there to use the (finally) vacant machines and they fucking used all my fucking detergent! They did this once before and I leave it down there and don't really mind if they're out of detergent and use it once, but holy fucking shit...this was like at least half full last time I checked.

I was hauling them up and down but then I just said fuck it and wrote my name on them, and it STILL happened. what assholes. I think I might do the bitchy thing and leave a note now.

Look how pissed he looks

Rightfully so, I put him under my sweater because I wanted him to sit on my belly!

It really is like, humiliating cats is kind of like making me understand guys that I've dated that are like "you're cute when you're flustered" cause that's kind of how I feel about pissing off my cats.

I should have just called this the cat blog

it seems like that's more than half of what I blog about and/or take pictures of. I swear I have a lot of fun pictures to post up, sometimes picking through them and choosing which ones are upload worthy just gets to be tenuous.

Fatass.

How did this happen?? How can a cat be so magnetized to Pizza???

My friend Drew.

I was showing off this video last night to Ksteg and Michael...my friend Drew is BRILLIANT. He's also really good at finding the most hilarious obscurities on the internet. In this video (and several others) he's at work on the metrolink, which is cool that he is so creative with killing time...but here's his blog entry about how he doesn't want you to ask him dumbass questions about driving the metrolink. He has brilliant myspace photos too, and here's the rest of his youtube videos, which are all great in my opinion...I recommend "Everywhere"...especially the part where he works the bristles out of his razor...you'll see.

Cranky Yellow has a sign!

I Met these kids down on Cherokee st today, and they're super sweet and they have a really cute storefront and they host monthly art shows too. I had to take a picture because look how cute his outfit is!!!! I don't even know what color you'd call those jeans, but I like it!

They've been open for a year and I hadn't made it down there, even though I should have for the crammed organisms stuffed animal show, but I hope they get a lot of walk Ins from having a sign now! They have a blog here.

the other night I came home drunk and tried to take a picture with both my cats

and this is what happened. cat juggling!

I make a pretty weird Kermit the Frog...

Matt took pictures of me riding my bike in costume that I haven't seen yet, but I'll post those when I get them.
